Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, Julie is now based in London although her accent has stayed with her! On completion of her performance degree at the Royal Northern College of Music she has worked and continues to work extensively throughout Europe with a variety of bands and projects.
She works in many different areas of percussion including Contemporary Dance, Pop Percussion, Ceilidh, Cuban, Brazilian, African, Session Work, Stage Shows, Workshops, Orchestral, Brass Band, DJ/Nightclub and Television Work. At one point, Julie was lucky enough to be the first westerner to join Choroes da Tia Ge, a samba school based in Sao Paulo, Brazil and took part in the huge Carnival there.
Her love and passion for hand percussion has led her to hold a number of Latin and World Music residencies over the years. She regularly performs with a Scottish ceilidh band that she runs called Reel Good Times where she plays drum kit, sings and calls the dances (often having to demonstrate the dances too!) and also an all girl vocal trio called The Woo Hoos where she plays cajon while singing lead and backing vocals.
Julie loves music and teaching individual lessons and whole class workshops has been a huge part of her life for many years. Being able to share this love and passion for music within her lessons is what inspires her to teach.
